Our Achievements

Though young, CENet has already made significant strides in the caregiving and health advocacy landscape in Kenya:

  • Partnered with the University of Nairobi through the ARUA Care Innovation Project, supported by IDRC
  • Conducted Kenya’s first National Family Caregivers Survey (Report launched July 2025)
  • Compiled a Policy Brief based on the survey to influence caregiver-related policy
  • Held strategic advocacy meetings with:
    • The Parliamentary Social Protection Committee
    • The Kenya Young Parliamentarians Association
  • Participated as panelists in the Validation of the National Care Policy, Kenya
  • Submitted:
    • A petition to Parliament recognizing family caregivers as a vulnerable population (Nov 2024)
    • A memorandum urging prioritization of the Social Protection Bill (Feb 2025)
We are guided by the 5Rs + S Framework for Decent Care Work, which champions

Recognizing the burden of unpaid care work

Redistributing care responsibilities fairly between genders and between the family and the public sector

Reducing the load and stress placed on caregivers

Rewarding caregiving as meaningful, valuable work

Representing caregivers in all levels of decision-making

Supporting caregivers to live healthy, empowered lives

To achieve our mission, CENet focuses on four key objectives:

  1. Influencing evidence-based policy at national, regional, and continental levels to create lasting impact for caregivers.
  2. Building a strong network of caregiver organizations and institutions to foster collaboration, learning, and synergy.
  3. Amplifying caregiver voices to raise awareness and drive prevention of non-communicable diseases.
  4. Enhancing the capacity of caregivers through mental health support, training, and promotion of self-care practices.
